Brick by Brick
On July 18, 2010, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church approved a plan to construct a 3,000 square foot free-standing classroom building behind the current church facility. This new facility will contain five multi-purpose rooms, two fully handicapped accessible bathrooms, and several storage rooms, one of which will open to the outside. The floor plan of this new addition is shown below.
In August, Cross Timbers Survey drew a new survey of the church property, separating the property into two separate lots: the lot on which our current facility stands and the new facility will be built, and a second lot that will be used for future construction. This allows the church to avoid the expense of putting curbs and gutters on Harbin Drive down to where our property joins the property of Lacy Funeral Home. That expense will be borne at a later date when that property is developed.
In August, DSA Construction was hired to manage the construction project. Their employee, Barry Foil, will be the Project Manager and Dan Branch, the Job Superintendent, will be the person on site once construction begins.
We anticipate that the work of W.K. Houp, Architect, the electrical engineer and the civil engineer will be complete by mid-September and plans will be sent to the City of Stephenville for approval and permits. DSA will handle the bids on this construction project and all interested parties should contact them at their office in Cleburne, telephone number (817) 477-2139.
If all goes well, we hope to break ground in early October and the construction should be complete by the summer of 2011.
September 2010:
The plans for our new building are complete and are now in the hands of the city planners for the City of Stephenville. They have asked for some changes to the plans in order to comply with current building codes and fire safety standards. We anticipate having permits in hand to begin building by the end of this month.
Almost 100 contractors have requested copies of the plans in order to submit bids. Many of these contractors met at the church this past Tuesday, September 14th, for a pre-bid meeting to discuss details of the construction with Barry Foil, our Construction Manager from DSA. In other meetings, Barry Foil met with landscape specialists to determine which trees need to be removed and which need to be trimmed to allow for an expansion of our parking lot for a new fire lane that will be established in the easement behind the new building. He also met with Oncor to discuss the routing of electrical power to our new building.
Bids are due by the end of this month and will be reviewed by DSA for capability, completeness, insurance requirements, references, etc. The finalists will be submitted to the church with DSA’s recommendations.
